Artist's Statement The interest in the photographs is in the persistence of nature co-existent with contamination, a hybrid creation; and in how the contemporary landscape, although altered still fills the place of need we have for a connection to nature, to our environment. Looking at the industrial landscape, the monumental aspects of production that have become archaic or are beyond the knowledge of non-scientists make this view awesome. This awe is now informed by the awareness of its toxic threat. So our sense of the sublime is now colored by a mix of desire and fear. It is a post-romantic view of landscape. |
